SHOBROOKE Friendly Club members were invited to decorate a windowsill in the Parish Church for the Harvest Festival.

The theme of the festival this year was “Raise the Roof” to raise funds for the Church roof appeal.

Some of the committee and members took some time in carefully arranging the flowers. Jacqui Lee produced an old roofing slate on which she had drawn a picture of the Church and immediate surrounds.

On September 19, 32 members and friends from Crediton went on a trip to Ilfracombe.

Although the weather was bright and sunny when we left Shobrooke, unfortunately it deteriorated as we headed north. By the time we arrived in Ilfracombe it was rainy and windy.

Obviously Ilfracombe was on the outer fringes of the storm which blew across Wales and the North of England that week.

Many members fortified themselves with coffee or something stronger in the Admiral Collingwood.

After about three hours in Ilfracombe, it was all aboard Powell’s coach for the Ashford Garden Centre for more light refreshment, before setting off once more in the direction of the Pelican Fish and Chip Restaurant at Barnstaple.

The fish and chip shop is obviously very popular, and it was a good thing that tables had been reserved for the club.

Most had fish and chips, and just about everyone agreed that it was the best cod and chips they had tasted.

We arrived back in Shobrooke at about 8.30pm, the usual draw having taken place at the Ashford Garden Centre.

Thanks, once more to Jimmy Powell for a good trip.

In the last few days members have been saddened to hear of the death of the oldest member, Eileen Seddon, who passed away over the weekend, just a few days before her 101st birthday. Many condolences to her surviving family.

The October meeting on October 17 will be Tai Chi, which I am informed can be carried out as a gentle form of exercise whilst sitting down.

Anyone over the age of 60 wishing to come along to the Club is welcome to do so, even if they want to come for one meeting as a taster, before deciding whether to join or not.
