“THE Festival of Remembrance, Exeter”. In previous years this event has been held at the Great Hall of Exeter University, a lovely venue for such an event. It then moved to Exeter Cathedral where it received some critical reviews in respect of access, parking and seating arrangements.

However, it has always been a highly praised performance and well-received. This year it is on the move once more.

The venue will be the Mint Methodist Hall in Fore Street, Exeter, on Thursday, November 2 at 7pm with tickets priced at £7.50.

It will be titled as a concert, instead of a festival. Further details will be published as they are known, please watch our notice boards.

During the year I get to know of local organisations running day trips to places of interest, by coach. I will endeavour to publish these as and when I can. This is a lovely way to get out and about and maybe make new friends.

Over the weekend of May 21 and 22 the Crediton RBL branch was represented at the Bickleight Castle 1940 Commemoration of D-Day. Whilst Saturday was rather damp and the crowds very thin on the ground, Sunday was a perfect day and the people came out in support.

It enabled the fly-past of vintage aircraft, together with exhibits around the ground, and not forgetting the ice creams and cream teas which all made a very pleasant day.

The Crediton Branch would like to say a big thank you to all those who organised the event and worked so hard to make it a success, also to Arnold Vosper who carried our standard and made the whole event look very authentic.

In closing I want to ask you all to assist and support us in the production of a Book of Remembrance of our members who have passed away. If you so wish, the name of a member will be recorded. As we recite

“We Shall Remember Them” it will help us to focus on what we say.

The Book of Remembrance will be accessible on such occasions as branch meetings and church services and other appropriate occasions.

Finally, the way the legion works has changed and is still evolving but if you need help or advice please telephone free on 0808 802 8080.
