EVERYBODY loves roses and Bow Garden & Aquatic Centre is getting ready for the coming season with lots of new varieties.
These quintessential English beauties will look fantastic wherever they are planted in your garden and with the right care and attention they can flower for long periods of time. You will easily find a colour to suit your taste and position in the garden, whether you want a climber, a rambler, some ground cover or just a standard bush, there is a rose for you.
Roses are easy to grow as long as you provide a few basics. Roses hate having wet feet so it is a good idea to dig your hole slightly deeper and fill the bottom with some horticultural grit to ensure the soil below the rose is free draining.
When planting use Mycorrhiza for optimum root growth. It is also important to feed your roses with something like Top Rose, use Bug Killer to prevent aphids taking over and Rose Clear to eliminate rust and black spot.
Where possible dig in some well rotted manure with new plants and they should get off to a flying start. Roses in containers need to be watered regularly, never allow the soil to dry out in the pot. Bow Garden Centre have some beautiful pots from their Heritage Range which look fantastic with a standard rose bush planted in them and they have all the rose compost, feed and insecticides you need, plus experts to help you choose the best roses for your garden.
Roses will flower throughout the Summer season and beyond if regularly dead-headed.
Avoid overcrowding rose bushes to allow growth and to avoid fungal diseases. Prune at a 45 degree angle with sharp bypass secateurs available in store (currently at half price!) to avoid die-back, and to encourage new buds to grow in the right direction.
Now is also the time to seed and feed your lawn.
Bow Garden Centre’s spring deals are starting for the coming season with Spring Offers in store now covering a wide range of essential products for gardening and looking after the home.
From fence care through to lawn care – the range is quite extensive and definitely worth checking out.
Bow Garden & Aquatic Centre has a fully-stocked garden centre with an extensive aquatic section for ponds and the indoor aquarist plus a well-stocked pet and gift department as well. Along with a Country Coffee Shop that serves daily specials, Sunday roasts and home made cakes and scones, why not make a day of it?
