BRILLIANT sunshine helped to make Tedburn St Mary's Fair and Sports day a cracker. It seemed that more people than usual had turned out to watch the afternoon's events.
Stoke Hill Beagles went through their paces, the dancing horses from the Rexon Stud at Lewdown stepped out. There was the pet's corner, representatives from the Donkey Sanctuary at Tedburn, vintage tractors, cars, motor cycles and commercial vehicles.
A choice of refreshments and some shady spots to sit to watch must have had lots of satisfied customers, not forgetting the long row of table top sales tables.
In the flower and vegetable show marquee, Helen Fry's pretty cross stitch picture for the birth of a baby won the June Dudgeon Memorial cup for the most outstanding exhibit in the show Mrs Fry also won the Tedburn Fair cup for gaining most points in the adult craft section.
Bernard Ponsford of Fulford Close, Tedburn, went home with three trophies. He won the William Pedrick cup for gaining most points in the show, the Everest cup for gaining most points in the vegetable classes, and the Tedburn Fair and Sports cup for the heaviest pumpkin.
The Roy Shilston Memorial cup for most points scored in the children's classes went to 10 years old Louise Putt of Tedburn. Louise also won the Tedburn Sports cup for gaining most points in the 10 years and under section.
The Margot Samuel children's cup for the best hand written piece was won by eight years old Madeline Squires of Tedburn.
The Tedburn Coaches cup for the most points scored in the cookery classes went to Anna Debenham of Tedburn.
For the sixth year the Brian Vile Memorial cup for gaining most points in the dahlia classes went to Tedburn's Martin Rich.
The Jengor shield for gaining most points in the flower section was won by Chris Gibbs. The rose bowl for gaining most points in the flower arrangement classes went to Marie Finlinson.
The Harris cup for junior photography was won by 11 years old Giles Wassell and he and Emma Hutton (11) of Exeter shared the Darren White Memorial cup for gaining most points in the 11-14 years section.
Allotments were created at Tedburn in June and quite a bit of the produce from them was among the exhibits at the flower and vegetable show.
