USING her imagination and creativity with words has put a nine years old Bow girl into the world of publishing.

Olivia Bridgman, who likes writing and colouring, took part in the national Ancient Adventures Creative Writing competition for 7-11 year olds.

She had to write a story with a link to history in exactly 100 words.

Olivia’s story was called Dad’s Amazing Invention in which Olivia described her father’s previously unsuccessful attempts at inventing things until he hit on the idea of a Supersonic Automatic Hydro-fuelled Tricycle.

This is included in a book which went into production on June 17 of all the best stories, including Olivia’s.

Olivia was the only person at Bow Primary School who was successful in the competition.

Chris Johnston, senior class teacher at Bow, said the competition organisers had said they were so impressed by Olivia’s work, they wanted more stories from children at the school.

They had said that Olivia’s story was “fantastic”. Mr Johnston added that the school has lots of brilliant creative writers of whom Olivia is the “shining light”.

He added that the competition was to encourage the children to explore their ideas, to use their imagination.

He said he was proud to have someone in the school who was a good budding author. Learning to use their imagination as well as how to write properly were both important.
