CREDITON Community Bookshop is celebrating Bookshop Day 2020 tomorrow Saturday, October 3 by giving away vouchers to its readers.

The first 100 people who buy a book, either in store or through the bookshop’s website between 9am and 5pm tomorrow (Saturday), will receive a National Book Token worth £5.

Every year, more than a thousand bookshops around the country take part in Bookshop Day by holding special events, creating bespoke window displays and more. The event is part of the “Books Are My Bag" campaign which is organised by the Booksellers Association.

Crediton Community Bookshop is a not-for-profit social enterprise trading for the benefit of the community.

Dee Lalljee, bookshop manager, said: “Like so many traders across the country we were impacted by the pandemic.

“As a community bookshop, it was, and continues to be, of utmost importance to us to support both our local community and our loyal readers.

“Bookshop Day is a wonderful opportunity for people to show their support; whether that is dropping in to buy a book or visiting our online shop, and we are really pleased to be able to thank people for their loyalty by giving them a £5 book token.”

Since the lockdown was eased the bookshop has re-opened and put in measures to ensure people can shop safely.

It is also offering private browsing for people who would prefer to visit alone, and is opening up its workhub space.

Other future plans include a virtual book group – keep up to date with the latest news from the bookshop via its website or social media.
