THE fire crew from North Tawton was sent to reports of a vehicle fire at Sampford Courtenay at 9.30pm on July 12.

Upon arrival the crew confirmed that it was a bonfire in a field which had spread to three vehicles and approximately 20 metres of hedgerow.

The crews requested the attendance of two further fire appliances and an off road vehicle from Okehampton to help with manpower and water relay.

The crews used one 45mm jet, a compressed air foam fogging unit and beaters to extinguish the fire.

One car was completely destroyed by fire, the second car had some damage to the front nearside wheel arch and the third vehicle was damaged by heat. The cause of this incident is believed to be accidental.
