ZEAL Monachorum Village Hall’s Vegetable, Flower and Homecraft Show took place in the Village Hall on Saturday, August 30.

“There were more than 250 entries and the standard of exhibits was high”, said Hall chairman Erica Eden.

She thanked the judges, Peter Heal and Angela Searle who had the difficult task of selecting the best entries.

“Peter judged the veg and flowers and Angela judged the cookery and handicrafts.

She also thanked all who took part.

Erica presented the awards as follows:

Vegetables: 1 Martyn Down 12 points, 2 Tony Edwards 10 points, Equal 3 John Howard and Margaret Harris 9 points. Best in Section - John Howard - Apples.

Flowers - 1 Sue Down 15 points, 2 Marion Quick 11 points, 3 Hazel Bracey 7 points. Best in Section - Sue Down - Vase of Perennials/Annuals.

Cookery/Handicrafts - 1 Margaret Harris 13 points, 2 Becky Ringrose 11 points, Equal 3 Jean Peck and Erica Eden 6 points. Best in Section - Margaret Harris - Swiss Roll.

There were rosettes and chocolate bars for each of the entrants in the Children’s competitions.

In the bucket of potatoes competition the results were: Adults - 1 Vanessa - 2 kilos 775 grams, 2 Rob - 2 kilos 531 grams, 3 Daz - 2 kilos 215 grams.

Child - 1 George - 2 kilos 437 kilos, 2 Harry 2 kilos 184 grams, 3 Charlotte 1 kilo 165 grams.

Helen Hall ran an auction of donated items afterwards in aid of Hall funds.

A special welcome was given to Wendy Quick at the Show. Erica explained that she had previously won the Flower Cup in 1966, 59 years ago!

Show Secretary Sue Down said it was a very good Show with a big increase in exhibits this year.
