BERT and Margaret Jewell, who plant up and care for many of the flower tubs in the town for Crediton Town Council, always go above and beyond.

In addition to the usual flower towers they care for and plant up in the Town Square, they also care for a number of flower beds and tubs around the town.

This includes three new tubs outside Hillbrow Residential Home and two flower beds in Exeter Road, a flower bed in Mill Street, some flower beds in Newcombes Meadow and a range of tubs around the Crediton Town and Hamlets War Memorial and toilets in Newcombes Meadow.

They have also planted the walled garden between the toilets and Union Road.

Bert and Margaret travelled to garden centres near and far to get enough plants this year.

The couple say that they could not do all that they do without the valuable help and support of a number of other volunteers, Eddie Sherwood and Nick Hastead and three ladies who worked really hard in Newcombes Meadow, Jean, Sue and Pam.

Bert Jewell also acknowledges the help and support he receives from the Crediton Town Council office.

Both Bert and Margaret certainly have green fingers and Bert has won many top awards for his flowers and produce at shows over the years.

He is one of the judges of the Crediton Town Council Floral Crediton Best Gardens and Tubs competition.

Crediton is looking particularly colourful at the moment with some wild flower areas planted by Sustainable Crediton and hanging baskets and other tubs and flower beds planted by Mid Devon District Council.
