THE village of Cadbury is situated just to the north of the Raddon Hills, high above the Exe Valley and less than six miles from the centre of Crediton.

At the heart of this peaceful hilltop village is its fine 15th century church dedicated to St Michael and All Angels.

The Church has been successful in their application for a Church of England project called “Give 2 Go Green”.

It is a project conducted by the Diocese of Exeter with funding from the Church of England’s Net Zero Carbon Programme.

The fund is to help churches reduce their carbon emissions, and the project will match fund money that Cadbury Church can raise in a six-week campaign this Spring.

Cadbury is intending to install solar PV with battery storage to help with the cost of heating and lighting the church.

The local community have organised several events and are aiming to raise £8,000 within the six week window and which started with a successful Fun Run on May 3.

There will be an auction of promises and various lots at 7pm on Thursday, May 22, held in The Exeter Inn in Thorverton.

There are a wide range of lots – ranging from short breaks in wonderful holiday cottages, a wild swimming opportunity, a Magnum of Prosecco, trout fishing on the Exe, home baked cakes for a month, a Spa treatment for two, many meal vouchers, tickets for the Mid Devon Show, a roof top tour of Exeter Cathedral, a sailing opportunity and a load of logs!

Cadbury Church is at the centre of this local community and it is hoped that this fund raising effort will enable the parish to keep it going as a vibrant space to hold church services and offer hospitality and a warm welcome to everyone who values this wonderful Grade 1 building.
