A SILENT auction on Sunday, September 15, raised £580 for St Andrew’s Church at Hittisleigh.

Lots ranged from bags of logs, a junior trombone, tambourine, bottle of rare vintage whisky, shoes, paintings, a crochet set, books, bags of horse manure, chairs, chests of drawers amounting to more than 110 lots.

The sale, where bids are written on a sheet of paper beside each lot, was organised by FOSACH, the Friends of St Andrew’s Church. There is electrical work that needs to be done and FOSACH has plans for a toilet.

Approval for the work has been given by the Diocese and English Heritage. The outcome of a planning application to Mid Devon District Council is now awaited.

The toilet would be made from local English oak that has been donated. Being on the Two Moors Way long distance walk and the Mary Michael Pilgrims Way, a toilet could be a useful addition.
