WELL done Arthur Burge, your letter in last week's Courier was brilliant and you certainly hit the nail on the head.

Devon County Council is very good at wasting money on things that are not used and yet they deny Exeter Road pedestrians the right to safety.

Surely this is illegal. Do they know what health and safety means? I would say "no".

To see these councillors sitting around their large table was an eye-opener. When I fought for the island at the top of Exeter Road, I was told then by Cllr Michael Hawkins (head of DCC) that there was no money.

when I said I would make our safety issue a nationwide scandal, that did not go down well.

When we had the island it was a God send to at least get to the middle of the road and traffic was not so bad.

Now it is horrendous. We are entitled to safety and I know the pollution is dangerous.

We know "White Elephant Way" was for houses.

I have been told to send copies of my letters used in the Courier to somewhere else. This I intend to do - name and shame the DCC - you are putting ours and young children's health at risk!

As in Arthur's letter, he had to wash his mouth out after sitting in a car for two hours. I myself have given (soft) drinks to workmen doing road repairs and others checking the Air Quality machine.

That is how had the fumes are, it leaves a soot feeling in the mouth - disgusting!

People's health is suffering and some, past and present, have suffered cancer, my husband being one of them.
