DO you like doing puzzles, crosswords, Sudoku? Do you like playing card games? Would you like to make new friends? How about a new and completely absorbing activity after a day at work?

If your answer to any of these is “yes”, then why not try Bridge? It is the best card game in the world and suitable for all ages from teenagers to octogenarians.

John Cater will be running a series of weekly lessons starting in September on Tuesdays, from 7pm to 10pm at Morchard Bishop Sports and Social Club (where the duplicate club also meets).

There will be a bar and refreshments available half-way through.

John explains: “Each lesson will involve input from me, followed by guided practice in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. There will be a booklet so there is no need to take notes and you can catch up if you miss a lesson.

“The lessons will assume no previous knowledge of Bridge and will enable learners to play at a social level using the Acol system of bidding. It leads on naturally to an Improvers’ course in the new year. You do not need a partner.”

The lessons are free except for a charge of £2 per session to pay for the hire of the venue.

You do not have to make any long-term commitment so why not give it a go?
