IN the absence of the Chairman for the July meeting of Sandford Parish Council, Vice-Chair Dave Hope chaired the meeting.
Open Forum – Two members from Sandford AFC were present to discuss the forthcoming replacement of drainage from the pitch.
They advised that this will take place one weekend later in the month or early in August.
Around this time the new play equipment, and outdoor gym, will be installed at the playing field and also new equipment to the Creedy View play area.
This has been possible due to grants from the Lottery, the SUEZ Communities Trust and funds earmarked by the Parish Council.
The Clerk gave a financial report on the parish Platinum Jubilee celebrations which showed that the income exceeded the expenditure thanks to generous donations from the parish.
Thank you letters have been sent to all those who contributed.
It was agreed to donate £500 towards the cost of the Common Players Alice in Wonderland production. Also £500 towards the Beacon Lighting event to cover the cost of the band and other expenses.
Jubilee souvenirs are still on sale, including mugs, tea towels, and pens and it was agreed these would be available at the Sandford School Strawberry Fair.
Cllr Jim Stephens reminded everyone of the annual contest to find the Best Garden, Tubs and other Containers. Judging will take place later in the summer.
A joint meeting is to be arranged with Sandford Tennis Club. A meeting is to be arranged to review Parish Council procedures and data protection policy.
The Parish Council has a vacant seat following the death of Gordon Griffin.
Anyone interested in filling this vacancy is asked to send an Expression of Interest to the Parish Clerk, setting out their reasons for standing, by August 29. The council is aware that currently it has no representation from New Buildings.
The next meeting of the Parish Council will be held on Thursday, September 1 in the Sports Pavilion, beginning at 7.30pm.
