FOR many years I have taken a keen interest in matters concerning life in Mid Devon and where necessary have commented on various issues.
Mid Devon District Council has always advised me by post when such issues arise for discussion.
The last notification was dated May 20, 2016. However, since the closure of the office in Crediton and the only access point now being the Library in Crediton, Mid Devon District Council DOES NOT provide a “hard copy” of such papers for inspection.
For those residents who wish to contribute to the discussion but do not possess a computer or knowledge to access one, they are at a disadvantage.
As a result I have, today (May 31), written to the Chief Executive at MDDC about the matter. The contents of my letter are as follows:
FOR many years, as a resident of Mid Devon, I have taken an interest in future plans and consultations concerning life in the area and until recently have been able to inspect the papers/documents in Crediton.
However, since the closure of the office in Crediton this is not now possible.
However, an alternative was the public library in Crediton which I visit regularly. Having been advised by you (by card dated May 20, 2016) regarding the following issues:
1. Statement of community involvement (SCI).
2. Refuse storage for new residential properties - supplementary planning document.
I went to the Library fully expecting to be able to examine both sets of documents (hard copy) - NO, not available BUT the said documents were online.
Now as a person who is NOT computer literate, DOES NOT have the means nor the knowhow to access the same with no help or advice offered I feel that the time has come for you to remove me from our mailing list as regards such matters and I will just have to obtain information from other sectors or the media.
I cannot be alone in being unable to access information by means of new technology and will not be the last.
Your comments on my observations, should you care to reply, would be most welcome.
