NEWTON St Cyres Primary School’s year one, pre-school and children from Key Stage One staged the play “A Wriggly Nativity”, a musical written by Peter Fardell, to a packed audience at Newton St Cyres Parish Church.
The play included the nativity scene, with Mary, Joseph and the baby Jesus, a donkey, complete with innkeepers, shepherds, two wise men and a wise woman, stars, angels and animals and narrators.
There was a recorder performance of “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”, a reading by Mr Joliffe, executive head teacher and everyone joined in to sing “Away in the Manager”.
Mr James Ankhurst, head of learning at the school, and Sue Browne, from Newton St Cyres Parish Church welcomed everyone to the church.
Mr Ankhurst said following the performance: “It has been a very festive week in school this week as we held our fantastic nativity in the church.
“It was really great to see all our younger members of the school and the entire pre-school perform such a great ‘Wriggly Nativity’.
“Thank you once again to everyone who came and made it such a wonderful afternoon.
“The KS2 children were at church again on Thursday for their Christingle and enjoyed this occasion sharing information on the history behind the Christingle and The Children’s Society charity which we are raising money for.”
He said further donations would be added to the £51.80 made at the nativity.
He said a huge “thank you” to Sue Browne for her help throughout the term.
He added: “The children thoroughly enjoy going to the church and using this great venue for their various activities and it’s great to have such strong community links.”
He also extended thanks to Moonridge Farm for the donation of a Christmas tree, which has been decorated by the school council.
