ANOTHER fun-packed and interesting year has flown by; we have had a host of events on the town square, a Diversity Festival, a moving Remembrance Sunday event at the War Memorial and a beacon lit at the top of George Hill.

I nearly forgot the loss of the town’s council building, sold to a local commercial buyer.

I would like to thank the staff of the "Crediton Courier", especially Alan Quick, for the extensive support and coverage of our efforts to retain the office for the town council and the other groups that use the building.

I would also like to thank those who campaigned and continue to explore a way to rid Mid Devon of a cabinet system that allows three cabinet members to ignore the wishes of 23 district councillors.

I know the Town Councillors will all join me in wishing all Kirtonians a happy, peaceful and successful 2019.

At this time of looking forward with hope let us remember those who face each day alone, those who go hungry and with substandard accommodation.

Let us be thankful that we live in a tolerant and friendly town and look forward with optimism to the undoubted challenges for us all of 2019. Let our motto be “onwards and upwards!”
