ZEAL Monachorum’s Autumn Flower and Produce Show saw a glorious display of flowers and produce welcome visitors to the Village Hall.

Tables were full of entries in a wide range of classes.

There were beautiful blooms, stunning floral displays and quality home-grown vegetables including onions, runner beans and many more.

A highlight was the “Teddies in a Bucket” competition. Many local residents had been given a bucket and a seed potato (Kestrel) earlier in the year and their task was to grow the best crop of new potatoes.

All the buckets were taken along to the show and these were emptied and the potatoes carefully weighed.

Results of this competition were: 1 Diana and David Bettoney – 2,600kg, 2 Gordon Denham – 1,830kg, 3 Marian Quick – 1,820kg, 4 Margaret Down – 1,075kg.

Show results were: Vegetables – 1 Isabel Harris – 32 points, 2 Martyn Down – 30 points, 3 Margaret Down (Beer) – 14 points. Best in Section – Ken Down – Three Runner Beans.

Flowers – 1 Sue Down – 22 points, 2 Jean Tucker – 11 points, 3 Marian Quick – nine points. Best in Section – Ness Goss – Flower Arrangement in a Wine Glass.

Trophies were presented by the chairman, David Bettoney, assisted by Janet Brealy, treasurer and secretary and Sue Down, show secretary.

Following the prizegiving there was an auction of donated produce and a draw.
