MEMBERS of the Sustainable Crediton Wood Group, turned out to bid a fond farewell to Charles Mossman.

Charles was awarded a brass plaque mounted on wood taken from the Moor Farm woodland.

The plaque was inscribed "Innovator and Instigator, you made the wood group happen".

Pete Mason said: "Charles was the man who worked it all out, he set up the group, found work assignments, got grants to support chain saw training and insurance cover, and he established many health and safety procedures.

"After eight years, working in the wood group Charles is leaving to start a new life in Ireland with his wife Paula."

John Craythorne, the new coordinator, said: "We will all miss Charles, but he leaves us in good shape and we will be starting our new season of coppicing, hedge laying and tree planting in October 2020.
