THOUSANDS of crocuses carpet the grounds at East Worlington House, East Worlington and as part of the National Gardens’ Scheme, visitors will be able to visit to view them on Sunday, February 28 and Sunday, March 6.
Set in a lovely position with views down the valley to the Little Dart river the crocuses in this two-acre garden are quite spectacular and have spread over many years through the garden and into the neighbouring churchyard which is also well worth a visit.
Dogs on leads are welcome and you can take a walk down to the river and there is now access to the woods over a new bridge.
Garden owner, Campie Hurst-Bannister, says: “We are hugely grateful to everyone who has supported the caring charities of the NGS over the years and we do hope you will be happy to support these charities again.
“As before there will also be a wonderful tea, this year available in the school next door, due to work already started on the refurbishment and re-thatching of the parish hall.”
Profits from the tea only will go towards the work on the parish hall.
The garden is open from 1.30pm to 5pm and admission is £3.50 (children free). There will be parking available nearby.
At NGS gardens all the money taken at the gate goes directly to Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie Cancer Care, Hospices UK, Carers Trust and other nursing and caring charities which are supported by the NGS.
The money taken for the teas and plants also goes direct to the charities unless stated otherwise.
Last year, in Devon alone, the National Gardens Scheme raised more than £150,000.
