IT has been a busy month on the Millennium Green at Sandford.

For the first time in its history, the Events area hosted a Crediton Arts Centre production of the “Merry Wives of Windsor”.  Rained off on the first scheduled date, the actors eventually performed on Friday, July 9 to an enthusiastic audience.  It was a delightful evening and the Green was a perfect backdrop.

The July workday team gamely tackled the overgrown stream running beside the path.  There were a couple of newcomers among the dozen who turned up for the task.

The vegetation was so overgrown you couldn’t see the stream before they started working on it.

Led by Louise and Mark they removed huge piles of plant material enabling the stream to flow much more freely again.

It was a challenging task but thankfully there are people who are willing to get stuck in to help maintain this lovely space that so many of us enjoy.

The 2020 AGM had to be held using the Internet because of the pandemic. This year it was decided to risk our unpredictable weather and hold it in the cob shelter on the Green.

Even though Covid-19 has obstructed fundraising events, we managed to raise £800 from two Bingo events - thanks must go to everyone who took part.

Several individuals made one-off contributions to help with maintenance costs in recognition of the joy they got from visits to the Green and walks along the Path, especially during Lockdown. The Green has also now secured a regular annual donation from the Tilney-Ellis Village Trust, which will help hugely.

Our next Sunday work session will be on August 8 when we will be clearing the pond - another wet and mucky job - but great fun! Meet at the container at 10am in your oldest clothes.
