TWO children sustained minor injuries following a gas explosion at a property in Newton St Cyres on Monday, December 6.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service (DSFRS) crews from Danes Castle (Exeter), Crediton and North Tawton were initially mobilised at 9.18am, to the domestic property, following a request from the Police for attendance to a report of a gas explosion.
A spokesperson for DSFRS said: “Concerns were raised for the occupants inside at the time with reports of injuries being sustained.
“Within minutes of Danes Castle crew arriving on scene they quickly established that whilst there had been an incident, it was a small explosion involving a gas fireplace in the ground floor living room.
“Two children sustained minor injuries and were tended to by fire service personnel, awaiting the arrival of the Ambulance service, whilst other firefighters isolated the gas supply and checked for any leakages using a gas monitor.
“Luckily there was no fire or structural damage and once the scene had been made safe duty of care was left with the occupants and Ambulance service.”
A fire crew remained at the scene until 3.20pm.
