POLICE are investigating a serious road traffic collision on the A3072 on Tuesday, July 14 and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Officers were called just before 4.25pm to reports of a road traffic collision involving a red Vauxhall Corsa and a blue Vauxhall Astra on the A3072 at Hollacombe, between Holsworthy and Brandis Corner.

A local woman, aged 53, sustained life-threatening injuries. She was airlifted to hospital.

A 19-year-old local man was also seriously injured and was taken to hospital by land ambulance.

The next of kin of both casualties have been informed.

The road was closed while an investigation was carried out at the scene.

Officers from the Roads Policing Team would like to thank the public for their patience whilst the road was closed.
