FIRE crews from North Tawton and Danes Castle, Exeter, as well as a water bowser, also from Danes Castle, were called to attend a forage harvester on fire in a field in Crediton Hamlets, near Crediton on Wednesday, August 3.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received a call at 4.21pm from a member of the public stating that their forest harvester had caught alight in a field.

Once on scene the crews confirmed that the harvester was well alight.

Firefighters used two sets of breathing apparatus and one compressed air foam jet to put out the fire.

Once crews had successfully extinguished the fire they used a 45mm jet to dampen down the surrounding area to prevent the grassland in the field igniting.

The harvester was totally destroyed by the fire. The cause was believed to have been accidental.
