DEVON and Cornwall Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage following two separate incidents of criminal damage to a speed camera in Bideford.
At around 4am to 5am on Tuesday, September 15 and Tuesday, September 29, intentional damage was caused to a speed camera on the A386 Heywood Road in Northam.
The new bi-directional safety camera is used to enforce the 30mph speed limit on the road to make the village safer for the local community and for other motorists. It was introduced in 2026 to replace an older camera.
The site was chosen because of the high number of recorded speeding vehicles, with typical weekly speeds exceeding 38 mph in both directions of travel, and to reduce fatal and serious road collisions.
If you witnessed either of the incidents or have any information or dashcam footage that can help with the investigation, please contact the police via the force website here or by calling 101 quoting reference 50260262224.
