DEVON and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to a fire of unknown origin at Broadwoodkelly, near Winkleigh, at 12.15pm on Thursday, May 22 and sent a fire engine from Hatherleigh.
A subsequent call was received reporting that a building was involved in fire and a further two fire engines were mobilised from Okehampton and Torrington.
On arrival at the scene crews confirmed that a building was well alight and requested a further two fire engines to attend for additional personnel which were mobilised from Holsworthy and Chagford along with an incident command vehicle from Ilfracombe.
The barn and workshop was discovered to be fully involved in fire and firefighters used one hose reel jet and one other jet, water supplement from a nearby street hydrant.
A water bower also attended from Barnstaple.
After 4pm the fire service confirmed that the barn measuring 15 metres x 30 metres of steel and block construction containing various agricultural items was totally destroyed by fire.
It total, three hose reel jets and one main jet were used to put out the fire with four sets of breathing apparatus and two ground monitors used.
Two thermal imaging cameras were used to check that the fire was out.
