PRIMARY school pupils in the local area spent some time recently using their artistic skills to make “peace posters” for Crediton and District Lions Club’s heat in the annual Lions Clubs International Peace Poster competition.

In the Crediton area, there were 83 entries from Copplestone, Hayward’s and Landscore Primary Schools.
This year the theme was “Together as One”.
Eric Parkes, who has co-ordinated the competition locally for more than 20 years, said that as usual he asked a local artist to judge the posters, this year Mike Palmer.

“This was not an easy task as the standard of artwork and expertise was of a very high standard from all three schools”, explained Eric.
He explained that the overall winner from each school will be put through to the Lions 1055W District Final which will be judged in November.

“If the student is lucky enough to be among the prizewinners they will be invited to attend the Lions Anniversary Convention at Croyde Bay in March.
“On behalf of the Lions Club I can’t thank each school enough for all their interest in encouraging the children to take part in the competition.”

Landscore Primary School winner was Lilah and runner-up was Freddie.
Copplestone Primary School winner was Saul and runner-up was Fern.

Hayward’s Primary School winner was Esme and runner-up was Cornelia.
The winning posters will now be sent through to the regional stage of the international competition.
