MID Devon Farming Life Group’s July meeting was held at Aller Barton, Sandford, by kind permission of the Cheriton family.

The evening was very well attended.

Rob Cheriton gave a very interesting talk about the family dairy farm and its day-to-day running followed by a tour around the farm ending with seeing the dairy herd.

Refreshments followed. Sarah Chown gave the thanks to the Cheriton family for a great evening.

The June meeting, held at the Waie Inn, was exceptionally well attended with 70 people present to hear guest speaker, Trevor Wayborn of the Sheep Show.

The star attraction of numerous county and country shows UK wide, he was winner of this year's Addington Fund Farm Business Award for Farm Champion 2026!

He told us how he changed course from being a paramedic to farmer, shearer, showman and businessman, working on his own show, learning to get the sheep to perform and shear while standing on a very tight stage.

The Sheep Show seems to be at the top of show organisers list of entertainment and education and working with local companies, British Wool being one of them.

Trevor takes the Sheep Show to 120 shows per season, everything from agricultural shows to food fairs, pumpkin festivals to street fairs, reaching three million people with over 172 million people via social media!

He said: “Agriculture is a hard job and we want to make a farmer laugh, when I do that then my job is done.

“On the plus side we are able to bring more people to our shows and talk face-to-face.

“Education is so important and entertaining with humour is what the people remember.

“We have the highest and best welfare, British Farming, British Wool and British Shearing is the best in the world.”
