THE January meeting of Colebrooke WI was held at the home of Bobby Murphy. Unfortunately it was not as well-attended as usual due to colds and flu but President Val Pennington wished all members who had made it t the meeting a very happy New Year.

We started the evening with our speaker, Laura Cowie from Devon and Cornwall Police, who talked to us about Cyber Crime.

There has been a huge increase in crimes of this nature with the increased use of computers, tablets, smart phones etc and Laura was able to point out how we can keep these safe and how to recognise when scam emails aren’t what they seem to be.

It was most enlightening and highly recommended to other WIs.

We then had a short business meeting – everyone had enjoyed the Christmas meal at the Devonshire Dumpling although it seems a long time ago now.

The resolutions were briefly discussed and members voted for their individual choices to be sent back to County.

The evening closed with a Bring and Share Supper to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Colebrooke WI. Val Pennington had baked and decorated a cake and slices were wrapped and taken for members who had missed the evening.

Our February meeting will be an audio visual presentation by Peter Budd – the subject of which will be a surprise on the evening!
