THERE was a feast of Palestinian and Levantine food for over 140 people who quickly filled the Boniface Centre during the evening of Saturday, November 22, to hear stories from children living there, as told by David Heathfield, who has been involved in storytelling for many years.
In between the stories, those attending heard The Turning Tides band, who performed with commitment and joy, including performing one song that everyone joined in with.
This was followed by Caravan Al-Yasmeen, a new three-person ensemble who have a wide repertoire of classical Middle Eastern music.
Their music makes for a creative arrangement of music of the Ottoman era and beyond.
To end the evening, Sandford Sings gave a lively rendition of some of their songs, especially those focusing on peace.

A display gave information about the historical background of Palestine and a series of animations, made by Gazan children, could also be enjoyed.
“Voices for Gaza” was organised by Crediton Palestine Group, set up in August this year to raise awareness of the situation in Gaza and the West Bank and to campaign for political changes to bring about peace and social justice for the Palestinians.
A vigil is held every Wednesday from 5pm to 5.30pm at St Lawrence Green.
Instead of an entrance fee, donations were invited with £2,311 raised for Medical Aid for Palestinians and supporting Gazan families.
Many favourable comments about the evening were made, including: “Coming straight from work, I felt well fed, so I donated. I’ve had so many comments from people saying how good the evening was” said Laura from the Green House.
“Well done all. Great team work. Good to know there are so many people in our community who support freedom and justice for Palestine.” Liz Brookes-Hocking.
