DEVON Open Studios (DOS) runs from September 11-28, and features artists from across Devon.
The White Room on Lords Meadow Industrial Estate in Crediton will be the venue for an exhibition by 10 local artists.
The artists taking part are Simon Ripley, Esme Cooper, Genevieve Murray, Penny Somerville, Anne Smyth, Anne Jackson, Gilly Haysom, Paul McCullough, and Claerwen Gillespie.
On display will be a wide variety of arts - domestic pottery, ceramic sculpture, glasswork, textiles, knotted tapestry, silk screen printing, jewellery, oil portraiture and fine art prints, film, painting, drawing and printmaking.
As well as his drawings, Paul McCullough, will be showing three short films. One is entitled “Unexpected Modulations”, celebrating the beauty of chance lines and their link to music, and the other two are time lapse videos showing the process involved in creating his work.
Claire Binden, Co-ordinator of Devon Open Studios, said: “There are 28 artists taking place in Mid Devon alone.
“We are delighted that so many artists from the area are taking part. The White Room Creative Space is a new venue and with 10 artists taking part in one space, this promises to be an excellent event.”
Genevieve Murray, who rents a studio at The White Room, comments: “I am really excited and pleased to be taking part in Devon Open Studios for the first time and also to be joining nine other artists in The White Room’s launch exhibition.
“As I am based in Exeter, my studio here helps me to focus on my oil portraits and is a perfect way to connect and meet with other local Crediton artists.
“It’s great to have a dedicated and affordable creative space at The White Room and I’m looking forward to welcoming visitors into my studio during Devon Open Studios.”
DOS is on for two whole weeks. Visiting individual studios and venues, or following a trail and visiting several in one area, can make a lovely afternoon or day out with family or friends. The studios are numbered and marked on a map in the Devon Open Studios brochure, and on the website. It is worth checking studio opening days, times, facilities and events.
During Devon Open Studios, The White Room will be open from 10am to 5pm every day. There is level and disabled access and a toilet, and disabled parking can be available. There are baby changing facilities, refreshments are offered and payments can be made by card.
Bindy would like to invite everyone to be part of celebrating the opening of this new venue.
On Saturday, September 11, to celebrate the first day there will be refreshments all day, and Bindy and the artists really look forward to welcoming you to The White Room and to its first Devon Open Studios.
